Environmental and Cultural Inventories via GIS (Elective):

Two Hours Lecture, Two Credit Hours

III.             COURSE OBJECTIVES:   

The aim of this Course, is to teach students how to obtain and use environmental & cultural profile instruments through GIS techniques. Cultural impact on spatial organizations and the use of environmental & cultural inventories in Urban Planning will also be discussed.

 

 

 

 

IV.       COURSE OUTLINE:                      

 

 

WEEK 1,2,3,4

Conceptualizations on Environmental & Cultural Inventories and related implementations in general. Social & economic factors, urban values

 

WEEK 5,6,7,8

Model of Cultural Structure. Signs, norms, values, basic assumptions.

 

WEEK 9

Mid – Term Examination

 

WEEK 10,11,12

GIS techniques to obtain Environmental & Cultural Profiles

 

WEEK 13

General discussion.

 

WEEK 14

Mid – Term Examination.

 

V.        GRADING:

Two Mid Term axaminations will be averaged and affect the grade by 50 %. Final exam will be the 50 % of the resulting grade.
