Course Title: URD 505 URBAN DESIGN PROJECT FOR PLANNERS

(4+4) Eight hours per week. Six credits.

PREREQUISITES

None.

 

 

Objectives:

Students will be expected to realize an extensive research and planning analysis under the direction of the instructor. Urban design and updated contemporary management principles will be applied to achieve sustainable planning objectives. Students will present their projects in written reports,  computer integrated drawings, and audio visual  presentations.

Learning Outcomes:  
 

Below given list defines the overall understanding which students should have after the completion of this course, such as:.

■ Urban design; its relation with architecture and urban planning. 

■ Urban Space, Urban Scale, Townscape, Image of the City as derived by Kevin Lynch 

■ Examples of urban design projects. 

■ Urban design at micro level.  

■ Detailed knowledge about the importance of CADD – CAMM and GIS software in Urban Planning.

 

Contents:

 

 

Philosophy of Research; İdeology of Planning, Qualitative Methods; Urban Design Theories; Urban Design Practice, Open Space Strategy Plans, Open space Projects, Theoretical and Analytical Approaches to the Urban Landscape.
